Gunsmith - How to install ebony forend trip on a rifle stock
An ebony forend tip can add a real touch of class to any rifle stock. Larry Potterfield, CEO and Founder of MidwayUSA, demonstrates how to glue an ebony block onto a rifle stock so that it can be later shaped and inletted. He starts by cutting the forend of the stock to the desired length and uses a belt sander to true it up. He then finds the center of the forend, center punches it, and drills the hole. Larry then places the ebony block into a vise, levels it, and drills an additional hole. The block is attached to the stock with liberal quantities of wood glue and a wooden dowel rod. Once the block is placed on the stock, the entire work is secured in a pipe clamp. All that's left is to shape and inlet the tip.
